Peter Huby was born in Hull, Yorkshire, in 1946. After leaving school, he worked various jobs before training to be a teacher. He worked as an art teacher in comprehensive schools for twenty-six years before leaving the profession in 1997. Though he has always managed to combine his own artwork with his other commitments, since leaving teaching, he has been freer to pursue his own interests.
As well as painting and sculpture, he has written and directed films and theatre pieces and has published many novels. He and his wife Linda who was Head of Performing Arts at Settle College in North Yorkshire have lived in Greece since 2004. He has two children from a previous marriage and four grandchildren.
